Is there a robust freeware program that will allow multiple desktops so that
I can unclutter my current dektop view.

I would like to be able to switch between destops with a hotkey and not lose
or have to redo my current default.

It would be nice to be able to just drag & drop elements from my default to
an alternate Window, so I could make the views more functional and still
keep all my "Old friends" in the default for comfort sake:)

Thanks EARL

With Windows Xp I use Microsofts own Virtual desktop manager, which
is part of the MS powertoys, downloadable from MS. It is robust, but
it does not support drag and drop.

If you are running on Win98 or such, but mainly if you have
InternetExplorer, then why not just have an uncluttered desktop and an
endless/limitless desktop too? Just right-click your desktop and set
"Active Desktop" as "View As A Webpage" this will hide your desktop icons.
Now, right-click and copy an old link, or create a new one, and set the
properties to the following:

Target: C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE /n, /root,
Start In: C:\WINDOWS
Shortcut key: None
Run: Maximized

Change the Icon to whatever you wish (I have use a desktop icon that I have
customized)
Rename the shortcut to whatever you wish.
Now, when you double-click and open this shortcut you will see your complete
old desktop and all of its links just like you are use to, only now it will
be limitless! :) Set the background picture to what you wish by creating a
"desktop.ini" file and altering it to suit your needs. :)

Virtual Desktop Manager

"Using a virtual desktop manager is a way to organize applications over
several "virtual" desktops. For example if you use two virtual desktops
you can put a webbrowser on desk 1 and by using a desktop manager "switch
away" the webbrowser and it will seem like you have a new empty workspace
(desk 2) to put another application/applications on. Virtual desktops are
very common in the Unix community and once getting used to this, it is
very hard to manage without it.

One of my own little projects is a virtual window manager for
Win9x/NT/Win2K/XP. I got tired of all the "multifunctional" managers with
different displays and toolbars, etc.
This program is developed after my own needs, I wanted a quick and easy
to use manager with no fancy graphics, and I seldom use more than 4
workspaces (but now it has up to 9).
The idea of VirtuaWin is that it should be as simple and effective as
possible but still highly configurable.

VirtuaWin is copyright (C) 1999-2002 and 2003 by Johan Piculell and is
from version 2.0 and up, licensed through the GNU General Public License.
See www.gnu.org for the complete license."

PowerPro has a very powerful Virtual Desktop feature. It takes a while to
customize it to your liking, but the customization possible is almost
limitless. It is on the Pricelessware list.

Thanks for the info Wayne. It looks like this one's a keeper. I had
mentioned PowerPro and it's ability to do virtual desktops, but this one
looks to be much easier to set up and use. With PowerPro you kind of have
to create half of it yourself. :)

I've tried quite a few freeware virtual desktop managers, and this one
seems the best so far, from what little I've used it. Now if it can just
keep impressing me...
