I am trying to create a virtual com port on a Toshiba
notebook that does not have a serial com port. I will be
using a Tripplite USB adapter. The problem is that it
never comes up clean. I get a code 10 error msg "This
device cannot start" and the resources tab shows only
the "set configuration manually" button. No matter what
settings I use, the device still shows up with the warning
icon. No conflicts are detailed.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You might try looking for another brand of USB/serial adapter
that has better drivers.
