marijke,

The infection is in the "System Restore" files. You need to turn off system
restore, which will flush it contents (empty it), and then turn it on again.

To disable System Restore, follow these steps:
1) Click Start.
2) Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
3) Click the System Restore tab.
4) Select "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all
drives" check box.
5) Click Apply.
6) If your computer prompts "Do you want to turn off system restore?",
Click Yes to do this. As noted in the message, this will delete all existing
restore points.
7) Click OK.

OR

Click Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore>System
Restore Settings>System Restore tab, check the box. "Turn off System
Restore on all drives", "Apply", and "OK" your way out.

Remember to turn it on again performing either of the above.

try installing & running spybot search & destroy
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download

Are you showing your hidden files & folders?

What op system are you running? If 98 start in dos mode & remove that file,
it's probably in the registry as well so you'll need to clean it or get a
prog that'll help you clean the registry.

Are you sure it wasn't c:\system volume information\_restore...etc...?

This would be XP's "System Restore" feature which has a habit
of backing up your unwanted malware.

Disable restore ~ reboot ~ enable (if desired) ~ reboot...
....and it creates a fresh new restore point for you - without
the malware.
