I bought a wine rack yesterday and inside the box was a £20 Virgin Wines voucher, so today I went on the Virgin Wines website and saw they had a Pre-mixed 'Tax Free' Reds case for £59.99 reduced from £92.

Great I thought, so I registered on the site and the same offer was still there...so I then redeemed my £20 voucher and went back to the case and found it had magically jumped up in price by £5 to £64.99 before taking the voucher amount off, which in effect reduces the voucher value from £20 to £15

I've looked into their terms and conditions regarding the use of their £20 Virgin Wines vouchers and see nothing that should cause this to happen.

I have emailed Virgin Wines and pointed this out to them and await a reply - but in the meantime has anyone here used Virgin Wines and experienced this?

Sounds like they have made a bit of a balls up there, and that there is no real reason for it to do that?

Not used them myself, but will be interested to see what they say as I've got a similar voucher :thumb:

No reply as yet......in the meantime if anyone has any comments about how good Virgin Wines are or of any other good wine buying sites, then please let me know

Ady, I can highly recommend.....

www.goodwineonline.co.uk

Give them a call if you require any info, and the owner, John, will let you know what the best wines are, depending on budget, Grape, region, etc.

I have used both the above and Virgin. Only when I have a special voucher or super special web deal. Both delivered on time and as stated and the wine was super in both cases. The cases I got had several Medal winners included and both had extra bottles of wine also. Very yummy indeed.

Thanks all for the recommendations for alternatives and also to TC for highlighting this:

You might also want to take a quick look at the above link, (Guardian, 21st Feb, 2009) :)

I have now had a reply from Virgin Wines:

"Thank you for contacting Virgin Wines.

When you log into your account with your voucher you will be shown existing offers which are available to you with the voucher.

As far as I was aware this case is £59.99, could you send me the link where you saw the same case at £64.99?

Please let me know if there is anything further I can assist with, as I will be delighted to help."

Of course sending them a link to the discrepancy will not work unless they login using my details  - however I've taken a screenshot of the window whilst I'm logged in and sent it to them (see attached pic) - will be interesting to see how they respond.

Reply from Virgin Wines this morning:

"Hi,
Thank you for contacting Virgin Wines.

The case mentioned and the one shown on the link are different, the Tax Free cases we do are either £59.99 (standard) or £74.99 (luxury) and the Why Spend More case is £91.30 reduced down to £64.99. If you put a voucher on your account you may well get a different selection of cases come up as some cases don't allow vouchers. The standard Tax Free cases does not allow vouches but the luxury one does so that's why this one appears and not the standard. If you wish to order the standard without the voucher just let us know and we can do this for you"

So thats it I guess - when you use a voucher they change the cases available to buy - I clicked on the same link I had seen previously when browsing unregistered and didn't realise it becomes a different case when logged in and using a voucher

Indeed - just a shame they don't make this clear on their site.

I replied:

I would suggest that it would be better to make this clear on your site that particular cases cannot be used with vouchers, such as you have done when you browse the Premium Red case which clearly states in red at the top
You cannot use a voucher with the cases on this page.” and also on the vouchers and in your terms and conditions.

How stupid of them :wall:

It doesn't say anything about certain cases not being available, so you'd think a £20 voucher means just that? If they made it clear, that's fair enough - but they didn't and I bet this fools quite a few people.

Well said Ady, there should be more transparency right up-front, what the heck is the point in trying to "hide" these things, they're only wasting customers' time.
