Socks the white house cat

I just did a Win2K reinstall due to a hard drive failure.

Win2K is insisting on defining my monitor as a "default monitor" although I
have the drivers for the monitor installed in c:\windows\inf It doesn't
give me the option of defining my monitor or drivers.

As a result, I get a display that leaves something to be desired.

Monitor is Viewsonic A75f
graphics card is S3 Trio32/64

I saw someone with the identical problem in microsoft.public.windowsnt.misc
with the identical problem in 2001, but no solution posted.

ViewSonic is listed as supported hardware on the support site.

I'm open to any and all ideas, including swapping out the monitor for a
spare hp 72 that I have laying around. I'm wondering if the old graphics
card is the problem.

Have you reinstalled/updated graphics driver, from graphics manu.site?

wtf is manu.site?

However sis makes chips for other manu's and dosnt neccessarily supply

Ensure you obtain the win2k one.

Does it allow you you "use" all the settings that are common between the
card and the monitor. In other words can you use any resolution/color
depth combination that is supported by both the monitor AND the graphics
card? If so I wouldn't worry about it.

I decided to spring for a new graphics card. Trouble I've been having is
that if the card is too new, it is too fast for my P2 motherboard. I just
bought an ATI Radeon 9200 SE VPU. Anyone have experience with that? Specs
on the box say that it's supported on a P2.
