Whenever I'm looking at my folders and files, I prefer the Details View, but
XP keeps defaulting to Tiles View.

Can anyone tell me how to set the View to default to Details?

Thanks

Francis

Fire up Win Explorer
Set up the screen the way you like it to look.
Click Tools, Folder Options,
In the Folder Options windows, click on View.
Note where it says Apply to All Folders? Keep that in mind.
Go ahead and look thru the options in the three tabs and set
up whatever you like, long's you know what you are
selecting.
When it's all as you like it, go back to the Views tab and
click the Apply to All Folders button.
That should set everything to look the same each time.

While you're in the Views tab window, you might want to be
sure you click

Remember Each Folder's View Settings

so that, later on, if you decide you'd rather see icons or
filmstrip mode, etc. for graphics in just some folders, you
can do so and it will remember the setting for that folder
only. In other words, if you change from the Details view
in a folder, the os will remember that and show it that way
next time you open that folder (but not other folders
unless/until you change them).
