please help! last month my son downloaded the viewpoint media player & now it
refuses to be uninstalled. i believe there is spyware embedded in it because
it keeps attempting to access the internet through my firewall. every time i
try to uninstall it, the program re-installs - creating duplicate files etc..
the e-mail address at www.viewpoint.com is invalid. any help or advice is
appreciated.

Yes, Viewpoint Media Player sure looks like dogs**tware.

I've you're using AOL 8.0 or above:

1 Close down all your AOL applications
2 Uninstall Viewpoint Media Player
3 Go to C:\Program Files\AOL 8.0\Jiti\ and delete Viewpoint.exe

[[Uninstall notice for Viewpoint Media Player
Notice that removing Viewpoint Media Player may cause the program that
bundled it to not function as intended.

Uninstall procedure

Wesley - I did what you advised and rid myself of most of it, but two parts
refuse me access. The email for viewpoint.com is invalid and AOL replied to
my questions with advice about something totally unrelated. Is there any way
I can rid myself of Viewpoint core.dll and it's ViewpointManager? They
continue to try and get thru my firewall.[ blocked].

If you uninstalled Viewpoint from Add/Remove Programs first, then go
into Safe Mode and set your Search preferences to Advanced - search in
hidden files. Make sure you have set your computer to *view* all hidden
files and extensions from the Folder Options applet in Control Panel
(or Tools menu in any Explorer window). There will be three places to
enable this. Ignore the warning when you uncheck the "show protected
system files".

Now do a search for viewpoint*, which should bring you all the evil
Viewpoint files. You'll be able to delete them because the program
won't be running in Safe Mode.
