I am using Office 2000 SR1 professional. I am unable to
get the power point program to show a slideshow. I have
ppt files from another version and thought this was the
problem. However, when I make a new file and try to show
the slides nothing happens. The program hangs up on the
first slide and stays there forever. I uninstalled and
then reinstalled the program. Any other advice as to what
the problem is and how to fix it?
Thanks,

Thanks,

Thanks for testing on a new file, Debbie. That would have been one of
the first troubleshooting steps we'd have asked that you try. So you're
ahead of the game!

It's a bit odd for PPT to stall on the first slide--just sitting
there--especially in all presentations. I assume that your slides have
their transitions set to advance with mouseclick and the mouse isn't
doing the trick, is that the case? If that's not it, I suppose it's
possible that automatic transitions were set to, say, 10 minutes instead
of 10 seconds. That could definitely make it seem hung. :-) The
presentations aren't set to Kiosk mode in Slide Show/Set up Show, are
they?

One thing I'd probably try is changing hardware acceleration settings
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00129.htm and updating the video
drivers.

Also, you might boot into Safe Mode and see what happens when you try to
show a presentation there. It will look ugly, but it's often a good
test.

Let's see, what else? Oh, try updating to the latest version of DirectX.

You might also check and see what's running in the background on your
computer. I can see something like this happening because of some virus
scan programs. Also, in PPT, what's the interval for saving AutoRecovery
files (under Tools/Options/Save)? Oooooh, and do you have a printer
driver installed on this computer (as described at
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00034.htm)? You might also try the
other things listed on that page.

If none of that does the trick, holler back.
