Viewing Slides Without PowerPoint

Geoffrey, it's not that difficult...

1. Winzip all the HTML presentation files.
2. In WinZip, go to Actions>Make .exe file ( this creates a self-extractor )
3. In the WinZip Self-Extractor wizard, leave the folder space blank and
write in the Command & Parameters space the name of the opening or initial
HTML file ( Index.htm or whatever ).
4. Create the self-extracting file.
5. When clicked, this .exe will automatically unpack all files to a temp
folder and will open the first page of your pres, which your students will
be able to view in the always present, everyone's-got-it Internet Explorer.

Best regards,

Gus

Hello Everyone....hope someone can help.

I publish PowerPoint slides for my students, and instruct
them to download the slides in preparation for my
presentations. For my students without PowerPoint, I ask
them to download the PowerPoint Viewer. However...any
notes that I create that accompany slides do not show for
the PowerPoint Viewer.

I thought I could save my slides as an HTML file, and it
worked nicely. However, I would have to upload the html
file and the folder of images - that accompany it. This
would be tricky for my students.

Is there a way I can save my presentation with images and
supporting notes so that my students without PowerPoint
can view it? Is there a utility or conversion program
available? Ideally, such a product would create one file
(not an accompanying directory of images too).

Please let me know if anyone can help.

Thanks!

Try File/Send To/MS Word and select the layout that works
best for you. This will put all visuals and notes into a
Word document. If students also don't have Word, try
saving that Word document as HTML. I think that would
work for you, although it's a bit roundabout.

if using pp2002 try saving as "web archive", not "web
page". it will save is as a .mhtml document, but will be
one neat & tidy document with no supporting folder. make
sure you tweak your tools/options/general/web
otions/browsers for the right IE version your group is
using

I don't understand the problem ...

All the students would need to know is the url to the main html file. So
long as you upload it AND the supporting files, all in the same folder, to
the web directory of your choice, there shouldn't be any problem for them.
They never need to know where the supporting files are.

WinZip Self Extractor AFAIK is not part of the Standard WinZip Program. You need to download the trial version, or purchase the single user version for $49.00

Ah. Duh. I missed a point here. You want them to be able to download the
presentation instead of viewing it online?

You could probably still upload it as mentioned earlier then have them go to
the url and choose File, Save As and pick Single File Archive in the Save As
dialog.

I suspect that'd do the job.

Group...

Thank-you for all the recommendations. More than 1
choice - and many more than I had before.

Much appreciated.

WinZip Self Extractor AFAIK is not part of the Standard WinZip Program.
You need to download the trial version, or purchase the single user version
for $49.00

The full-up WinZIP SE app is an extra but WinZip on its own will make simple
SE files. At least my version does. Try rightclicking on a ZIP in
WinExplorer - see if you get a "Create Self Extracter" option on the popup.

Mine does also, but does not give me the option to run a program like Gus is indicating.

Ah, right. Yes, I think that wants the extra-cost SelfExtrator version.
Thanks.

There is a trial version, which gives nag messages, which can be annoying.
