Is this safe to do on a possibly infected Email?:-

In Outlook Express 6

Right-Click the Email

Select Properties > Details > Message Source.

Are the contents safe to view like this? I'm thinking it is, but I can't be
certain.

Perfectly safe. Alternatively you can set OE to vierw all e-mails as
plain text or simply change your e-mail client.

It is reasonably safe if your OE is fully patched against existing
exploits. Otherwise it will open in the preview pane when right
clicked and whatever vulnerability it may still have is exposed.

I do it that way......but he could drop the Preview Pane to be really
safe.....in OE, go to View/Layout and take the checkmark out of Show Preview
Pane.....however I have it *toggled* on my toolbar.

For emails I have the preview pane turned off. All patched up too. I
supposed the same goes for newsgroups? Though I don't always use OE for
news it's just more convenient to have the preview pane open.

My first Message Rule is to divert all emails with attachments into their
own folder.....so I leave the preview pane on. Besides that, I use
Mailwasher to vet my emails......and delete all the spam & viruses with
that. Fully patched (new ones at Windows Update yesterday btw......so get
those).

If one should download and I don't like the look of it, I go in the back way
like you were asking about.......or drop the preview pane and do it that
way. They can't hurt you unless you click on them.
