When I attempt to open a fax, the Adobe Photo deluxe
software opens and gives a message that it could not open
the fax because there was a "problem parsing the TIFF.file
A. How is this corrected?
B. How can I change the software that opens faxes to word?

I assume that you are using Windows XP Fax and trying to open a fax from
Client Console.

There are many causes for this problem. Most often, this problem arises
because some other imaging application that you installed has tried to set
itself as the default viewer for TIF files and spoiled the association. To
view faxes from the Fax Console, make the Windows Imaging and Fax viewer can
be your default viewer for TIF files. You can easily restore that setting in
Windows Explorer > Folder Options. File Types. For most users the command
line should read:

"rundll32.exe <drive>:\WINDOWS\system32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen %1"

Another common cause of this problem is firewall software Trojan horse
rules. The most common is one that ships with Norton Internet Security.
Details on that on are available here:

Photo Deluxe is notorious for grabbing file associations. To change the
file association, open Windows Explorer, find a .tif file, right click
on it and select Open with. Select Choose Program, find the program you
want and select it. Or open MS Word, File, Open. Browse to folder with
..tif files, pick one. Doing it this way won't change the file
association.
