Just got a new Vista Business laptop with McAfee for security. I have been
downloading my additional software from the microsoft site. Problem is
despite seeing the download complete, following the path perfectly and
repeating these steps multiple times, I am unable to "see" the .exe files
which are labled application files. I know the files are there because I can
view them via the download manager on MS site. I am assuming this is some
sort of self protection feature...which of course is more frustrating than
helpful. My first day with Vista has not been a good one :( I just want to
find the file, unzip it and download it so I have my needed software!!!!

TIA for any guidance or information!

What is the path for the location where you are saving the files? Do you see
any popup warnings when you select the download button?

There are some folder locations in Vista that are heavily restricted for
certain operations. You should not try to download files to areas such as,
C: (root), C:\Program Files, or C:\Windows.

If you download to these locations, you should see a popup message warning
that you cannot download to this folder. If you do not see this message, the
files are usually handled by the Virtualization component. Open Windows
Explorer and go to the folder where you downloaded the files. In the Command
Bar, you should see a "Compatibility Files" button. Click this button and
you will be taken to the folder where the downloaded files are located.
(Usually C:\Users\your name\AppData\Local\Virtual Store).
