Viewing contacts list on inbox page

I am new to Vista and have figured out a lot just by messing around with it
but I feel like a big dummy because I can't get my contacts list to stay down
in the lower left corner like I could in Outlook - anybody know how?
 
Some versions of Outlook will install under Vista. Do you still have it
available for that? Which version is it?
