Viewing AVI movies in a small window

I have VISTA64 with Office 2007 and am having trouble viewing an AVI movie in
a small window without selecting 'view full screen'. The sould plays just
fine but the video portion is only black (no video).
This laptop has 2 gig memory with the best video card that HP puts in this
17" model and all updates installed.

Am I missing something? The help indicates that I can resize the video which
I do, but the only part of the video that displays is the first frame. All
others are black.

The windows media player works just fine.

Thanks for you help,

Hi Joneszy

This could be caused by too long a file path. Try moving your pptx & avi to
C:\Test and re-inserting the avi. Does that fix it?

Thanks for your quick response. I copied the file and shortened the name as
well. I then created a new presentation and inserted that video clip. I then
saved the presentation to that same folder.
Well, I get the same results.
No video... hummmmm
What else might I try?

thanks again,

Bummer!

OK. Are you inserting the video through insert -> movie -> from file? Or are
you using insert -> object -> create from file? Or are you hyperlinking to
the file?

For more info on video in powerpoint (like how to check the mciplayer) see

0o0o0o just had a thought. Try setting your hardware acceleration back:

Thanks again for getting back quickly,

I used the icons: "Insert - movie - from file" and selected the file from
that window.
I've also reviewed the referenced link at an earlier time and didn't see any
solution, however, I've been know to overlook things.
I don't understand why setting the video hardware accer. back will help but
will give it a try and let you know.

Thanks

Good morning,

Well there is two things I tried with limited success.

The first was cutting back on the hardware acceleration. Well my NVIDIA
driver does not support this feature, however, I did find some Global
Settings for 3D. I'm not exactly sure what to change. I made some changes to
these 3D settings that might slow it down but the video portion still did not
play in the presentation.

The second was to convert the file to a WMV file after downloading the 64bit
converter. The program stopped responding after a few seconds but it did
create a short WMV file that I used in the presentation. I was able to view
this WMV file in a small window within the presentation, however, all my
videos are in the AVI format.
Therefore, converting files to the WMV format is not the perfered solution.

Conclusion: Converting AVI's to WMV's for use in presentation is only a temp
solution but it does work. I am still looking for a solution where I can use
my AVI's. Maybe Microsoft will address this issue in a future update.

Thanks again,

Joneszy
