What kind of attachments, .doc, .pps, or .xls?
Make sure you have the program installed that will open that kind of file.
Have you tried saving the attachment, and then clicking on the saved file?
In Windows Mail, Tools, Options, Security, uncheck "Do not allow attachments..."
I have Vista Home Premium. I can open some attachments just fine. Others
open, but begin and end with jibberish (pages!!) that look like commands.
The main body is usually somewhere in it, but why is all the jibberish there
too? I did not have this problem with my former Windows 98.
Any help would be appreciated.
Any specific type of attachment, such as .doc Word files?
How are you opening the attachment, within WinMail, or
by double-clicking on the saved attachment file?
Thanks for responding.
The attachments are noted as a "DOC file". I open my messages in my Windows
Vista email and open the attachments by double-clicking on them.
I have been able to retrieve a readable and printable copy if I copy it to
WordPad then delete the pages of commands. I hope I wouldn't have to do all
this with attachments. An easier way? Why is this happening with Vista? --

Okay.
I've downloaded the 2003 Word Viewer. I'll let you know how it works and if
it solves the problem.
Another observation as I scan through these posts....why are there so many
problems with Windows Vista? My brother (a programmer) says he never buys
the first new version of a new system but waits until after several patches
have been made. But don't these Microsoft people know what they're doing by
now?
I am having problems getting correct and complete instructions from the
technicians, they either don't understand what my problem is or are all
newbys.
Well, now I find that the 2003 Word Viewer did not work.
Attachments (doc files) are still filled with pages of jibberish.
It is hard to believe that Widows Vista has an email program
that cannot read another Windows document properly.
I'm thinking I should have followed my brother's practice of
never buying the first version of a new operating system!
This is very disappointing and I will be letting Microsoft know.
If a different program is needed, I expect Microsoft to provide
it.
Are there any other remedies/ideas for solving this problem?
I doubt that IE7 has anything to do with it. However, if you're
asking about Outlook Express on Windows XP, you should
post that issue in the Outlook Express newsgroup.
