Have a laptop and a desktop, both with XP home & IE6. Laptop will open .tif
files in the included MS FAX & Picture Viewer, desktop will only give me a
blank page with the little square icon in the upper left corner on the same
web page. What do I need on the desktop computer to open and save TIF &/or
TIFF files?

You'll need to get a graphics program like Paint Shop Pro or Microsoft
PhotoDraw or any number of that type. Try Google to find a shareware or
freeware program if all you want to do is open and view and do other simple
things to the file images; the ones I named are too expensive for just that.

Good lucj,

Carl

I have ArcSoft Photo Impression 3, PhotoShop Elements, MS Paint, and MS
Windows Picture and FAX Viewer, what I don't have is some way to direct the
..TIF file I'm trying to download and view to one of those programs. When I
click on the 'View Map From Imaging' [the ONLY option] in the website I'm
using, after a period of time the IE page goes blank but for the little
square icon upper left. No option to download is presented, no program opens
with the map in .TIF format.

Hi Mike - The Alterna TIFF plug-in works very nicely in IE (except maybe for
some special multi-page stuff occasionally), free, here:

You need to have PAINT in your system To check this try this:

Start, All Programs, Accessories

Now you should be able to to a paint program listed here. Launch this and then do this:

File, Open
Change file of type to: All Picture Files

Hope this helps.

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no activation.

I use Netscape 7.2 as my default browser which has everything I need for my work.

Well, Alterna TIFF worked, but I'm not sure if it was the program or having
to reset the Active-X settings in IE during the install that make the
difference. Whatever...I can now view & save TIFF/TIF files. Thank you

If you don't have any third-party programs taking over the default
associations for graphic imaging, you can restore default associations
by Run... (e.g. press Win-R and enter:)

regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll

Good luck

Actually, I remember opening TIFF files in IE6. I know I didn't have
Alterna's plug-in, but must have had something. Turns out the QuickTime
plug-in from Apple is what I have and it works for TIFF as well as MOV
files - and a few others as well.

Ah, yes - an enlightening technical response. Of course, Kerry's daughter
made sure we know she has tits :-) They take a nice picture, too.
