I've received a PowerPoint Slideshow with a pps extension that is in a 2003 format. I have Office 97 and when I try to open it it gives me an error that says cannot open file. Is there anyway to convert this. I thought all Office versions were forwards and backwards compatible except for new features.

More than likely the originator password protected it, which 97 can't get
around. You'll have to get the originator to remove the protection.

Hello,

If indeed, as others have suggested, the presentation has been password
protected, you might still be able to view it (not edit it) without having
to know the password if has only been password protected against
modification.

Simply download PowerPoint Viewer 2003 and try to open the presentation
with it.
