Using Powerpoint 2002 and a hypertext link. I would like
the link to force the viewer to play the PPT instead of
the "local" copy of Powerpoint if it exists. Can I force
the viewer to run? (from hyperlink)

[CRITICAL UPDATE - If you are using Office 2003, you should install this
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello JS,

Where is the hyperlink text?

If the hyperlink text is in a PowerPoint presentation that is being
displayed in a slide show (either in PowerPoint or the PowerPoint Viewer),
following the link to another presentation will cause that presentation to
be opened up in whichever application you are already using for the running
slide show. So, if the presentation containing the hyperlink text is
running in PowerPoint, the linked to presentation will also be shown in
PowerPoint. And, if the presentation containing the hyperlink text is
running in the PowerPoint Viewer, the linked to presentation will also be
shown in the PowerPoint Viewer.

If the hyperlink text is NOT in a PowerPoint presentations (it's in an
e-mail message, Word document, web page, etc.) the application that the
Windows shell has associated with the file extension (*.ppt or *.pps)
determines which application will be used open the presentation (it's
really outside the control of PowerPoint), so the behavior would depend on,
for each system, whether the users have change the default file
associations or not.
