I have a ppt show that i want to give to friends. I want
them to be able to see it even if they do not have power
point. I downloaded the viewer 2003 but don't know what
to do with it. Do I just copy the little executable file
it onto the cd and they install it on their computer? I
would really just like for them to view the show from the
cd. I ppt show has music and it seems like there is a
problem from what i read. I need to know where to go for
step by step instructions.

They have to install the viewer on their system to view your PowerPoint
presentation.

I don't recall exactly, as it has been a long time since
I downloaded the player, but I believe that you run the
executable and that installs it into the Pack and Go
feature of your PP program. Then when you want to
distribute your presentation you open it up and select
Pack and Go. Follow the wizard and make sure you select
that you want to include the player. Pack and Go will
then copy your presentation and all of the linked files
together into a designated directory. Everythng gets
packed up into 3 files. When you execute the application
file it will unpack everything again into a new
destination folder-- including the player. Burn the
contents of that folder to CD and you're done.

Pack and Go uses the old Viewer. If you want to use the new PowerPoint 2003
Viewer, don't use Pack and Go. You can use the Package to CD function in
PowerPoint 2003. If you are using PowerPoint 97, 2000, or 2002 you can use
PowerLink Plus http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/acdpc.htm.
If you want to "do it yourself", you'll need to include all of your
presentation files, the Viewer files, and create an autorun.inf file. Then
burn the whole works to a CD, taking care to ensure that your links don't
break, i.e., all links are "relative".

Michael, the new Viewer does not have to be installed on other machines. It
runs nicely from a CD, just like the old Viewer did.

I really must learn to read the whole message. My apologies. That being said.
The CD has to be set up as an AutoRun CD for the viewer to work from the CD, Is
this not correct?

That is correct. <G> Or the Viewer can be opened from the CD by double
clicking on pptview.exe.
