I want to be able to see what employees are working on when using a specific
software program. I'm new to programming and can't find how to set up my
system
to be able to monitor users when working. It is critical that this
capability is part of my system. Any suggestions on where to find the info
on how to set this up?

Do I understand correctly that for example, if an employee is using
Excel, then you want to be able to see the actual spreadsheet they are
working on?

You need to notify the employees and ask them first
if its alright with them if you invade their privacy and
spy on them.

Google for user monitoring software such as http://www.track4win.com/

Thanks alot Mike! Obviously that is the easy answer and probably should be
and will be the route I take. However, do you know if I can program it myself
or if it can be done through managing the Windows operating system? The
reason I ask is I would like to be able to learn how to program this
capability into my product, or at least tell the customer how they can do it
through their system administrator. If not, thank you very much and I'll move

Hello Carey, I must say being new to the community I was excited to see a MVP
responding to my question. Obviously I thought with your expertise you would
be providing an answer to my problem. I don't think you read my post clearly.
I am a new programmer developing a point-of-sale system. The Sales managers
want to be able to check the progress of the sales people when they are
dealing with the customer because that is their job. The sales people will
definitely know they are being potentially monitored because they may need
help in closing the deal. Believe me I am very much against the direction of
an Orwellian society which the world is dangerously close to achieving that
reality, albeit under the quise of terrorism. Hopefully, in the future if I
post a question you can use your experise in the area of computer technology
to possibly help me. Not to be indignant, but I don't need any lessons in
ethics. I'm as honest and ethical of a person you could ever be lucky enough
to know.

move
on to other things and just add this software into my program. Have a
great
day!
John,

I've only seen a similar, educational product used in schools, called
Ranger. this did have a basic tuning facility for individual configuration.
It was also priced on user numbers.
How many people would it be needed for and do you not already have some sort
"appropriate pc usage" policy that your employees have to sign and abide by,
with penalties for contravention?
With regards to your programming it to suit your needs you would need to
draw up a short list of possible suppliers and contact them to see which, if
any met your requirements in this respect.

John,

I must admit, when I first read your post this is what I thought you was
trying to achieve.
It sounds like you need something like a remote desktop viewing application
that lets you monitor activity on the remote PC,
which are accessed by IP address. See http://tinyurl.com/e2xrk
