View question (List, Icons, etc.)

I use Windows XP Professional.

I like to view directory contents strictly in the "List" format -- I
don't care for icons at all. How can I change the default view to
List, instead of what it now appears to be, Icons?

Hi George,

In an Explorer window, set the view the way you want it.
Then click Tools­> Folder Options­> View tab, and click
the button labeled "Apply To All Folders." This changes
your default view.
