You probably mean the console. And no, there isn't a
way. You might want to try PCAnyWhere. Alternatively,
you can use Windows Server 2003 to do this, since the
mstsc.exe has a /console switch at the command line that
will let you connect to the console of the terminal server.

to - rather than a new desktop?

The reason is that you cannot see error dialogs, etc. that may be displayed
on the primary...
