Hello
I am planning to setup an end to end vpn with two cisco pix routers. I
need to be able to browse a folder on the other remote network. I am
sure the netbios name will not pass through the tunnel so I was planning
to place an entry in lmhosts(is this correct?)

Also if I implement the above setup, will I need to open any ports in
the firewall to allow the ability to browse the remote folder?
Thanks in advance.

You need to open the ports for VPN only. After you establish the VPN, the VPN client the same the LAN client. It should be able to access shared resources.
