Hi,
I hope this is an appropriate place to ask this question. After searching every help file I could find I've been unable to even find a reference to my problem.
I prefer to list all my folders and their contents in detail view. After going to that view there is then a drop down window to select "chose details". In the music folders, the default details are "Name", "Artist", "Album" "#", "Genre", and "Rating". I unselect all the check marks except for "Artist" and add "Title", "Date Modified", and "Bit Rate". After setting the width of each column in pixels, clicking OK, I then go back to the drop down menu under view and chose "customize this folder". Under the tab "Customize" I select "Music Details" and check "Also apply this template to all subfolders", click "apply", then "OK".
What I am expecting to happen is that all the subfolders will also have the same details displayed as I just set up in the top folder, but that doesn't happen. Opening any subfolder reveals that they are still set to the default details of "Name", "Artist", "Album" "#", "Genre", and "Rating". I've also tried choosing
"All Items" instead of "Music Details" from the "Customize" tab of the "Customize this folder" menu. Still no joy.
Does anyone know how to solve this? I certainly don't think I should have to modify the details view in hundreds of folders, one at a time. I'm even willing to hack the registry if someone knows how to do that. BTW, I have the desktop views set to "Classic". Does this affect what I'm trying to accomplish?
I've searched the Microsoft Knowledge base, other groups, even the Internet in general and can't find that this problem has ever even come up before. Whether it's music or some other top folder such as Documents, surely others have tried to make subfolders display the same details as the top folder. If it doesn't pertain to keeping the same details, then what does choosing "also apply this template to all subfolders" mean in the customize menu?
Thanks for any help on this.
