Videos not playing in Powerpoint

John

I have several presentations with video clips (avi, mpg).
They were working fine but for some reason they now just
appear as an image and when they try and run they just go
white.

This happens in powerpoint when i double click on it and
also in the screen show.

All video file associations are for Windows Media Player.
I uninstalled real player but this did not help.

I have tried reinstalling Powerpoint, ran all the windows
and office updates, reinstalled Windows Media Player 9.

They only work when I insert them as an object, but that
means I cannot use the custom animations.

They also work when I create files from them in Producer.

Any help would be appreciated as it is driving me crazy!

The only software I have installed lately is an FTP
client. I have unistalled some software, SQL server and
some other utilities.

Cheers

J.

Oh, here you are again. I responded to your other post asking if you had
Real Player. Uninstalling it doesn't repair the damage that it does to your
MCI settings. You'll need to read through
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm . Pay close
attention to the section titled "How Multimedia is Handled in PowerPoint"
and follow the instructions for repairing your MCI settings.

how long is your filename?
here a solution that worked for me (copied from an older posting):
my pathname is too long - it should not exceed 127 characters
including filename, foldername, subfoldername etc etc

Could you check?
