x-no-archive:
I have some old avi and mpg file videos that use to play but a couple
of years later, they no longer do. ran AVI codec and the V. Codec
name is blank and the A.1 codec name is says Default DirectSound.

If I check some of them in G-Spot, it states "Non-AVI File - Type
Unknown." (but it is an AVI)

Any ideas?

x-no-archive:
it occurred to me but I can't see how. Is there a way to determine
that they are or not?

If they are on a data DVD or CD, try in another PC. The thing that pointed
me to this conclusion was that G-Spot couldn't identify and render them
correctly.

You could try repairing it with AVI Fixed
