Something happened the other day and now videos are much darker than
photos on my Windows XP machine. I can set the videos to look the
way they used to by changing my video card settings, but then
everything else is washed out. Reseting my settings makes everything
look right except videos.

Is there a setting I can change?

Depends on the UNNAMED application that you use to view the videos.

Could also be a global video setting. Display applet (Control Panel) ->
Settings -> Advanced, check the tabs for color, gamma, or whatever they
provide for your video driver and try resetting to defaults.

Some video card software allows for "profiles" which will do this for
you. It's supplied by the software, not Windows XP, so you will need to
look for the "adapter specific" settings rather then the general XP
display settings. Frequently found under the "Advanced" button in
Display Properties, Settings OR maybe Start. Programs and your Video
card name, Or possibly double click on the monitor setting icon down in
the notification area.

I'm not finding that it makes any difference - they all are dark. Pick
Windows Media Viewer if you want.

Did that before I posted my message.

If using Media Player you can adjust this in it. It has controls for
video playback. Go to View/Enhancments/Video Settings.

Changing these settings here make the change for Media player only and
do not change any global settings for your card.
