I've found that if I disable the windows firewall, I can use my webcam in
windows messenger. Is there a port I can set open to acheive the same
effect?

I've tried using netmeeting.......instead of the nice list of contacts as
pictured onJonathan Kay's webpage, I get "can't find microsoft directory".
Is ther eanything I can do about this?

Incidentally, with the firewall disabled, I've had a coupke of pop-up
messages. Haven't had them prior to this, and I was feeling kind of
deprived, cos everybody else had them!

Hi Jonathan

Ok...I did that; I deleted about 20, and when I restarted windows messenger,
and had a look, there were a new set of MSMGS entries - was that expected?

Hi Jim,

If you're seeing 20+, this usually indicates that you have DirectX 9 installed (this is a
known bug). To fix, upgrade to DirectX 9b:

As well, this problem can also occur if the you have Norton Antivirus 2003 installed, Norton
added a new "instant messaging scanning" feature to Norton Antivirus 2003, which can conflict
with Messenger and cause this behavior. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the
Norton Antivirus icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open
Norton Antivirus'), click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger
and click OK.

After you've done both or either of these, be sure to remove the 20+ that are in there now.

Hi Jonathan

I don't have Norton (I had it on windows 98, but main use I made of it was
checking registry after uninstalling a program ). I've installed DirectX9b,
and network settings now has two entries when messenger open, none when
closed.
