My daughter has been having the same problem. She had not used Movie Maker
(2.1) for quite a while, and when she started using it again, it 1) Estimates
up to 300 minutes and over, and doesn’t begin to save. 2) She tried saving
other clips, smaller in space, and it appeared to start to save before
locking everything up. It then says that the Dr Watson Postmortem debugger
has stopped responding. In all cases it either either does 1 or 2 when trying
to save a Movie Maker file.

Except... I had her try making some things on my computer (Dell Dimension,
Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz, 1 GB RAM), using files from her computer and making
sure it saved, which it did, then take the projects back to her computer and
see what it did. They saved fine. This makes me think whatever the problem
is, it is specific to her Movie Maker.

Her computer is an Acer Aspire T180, AMD Athalon 64 X2 4400+ 3 GHz, 2 GB
RAM, 320 HD. All components show they are working fine in Hardware Manager,
and other than when trying to save a file made in her Movie Maker, the system
seems to run fine.

This Movie Maker problem started happening while her computer was still
running XP SP2, and continues after I installed SP3 a couple of days ago
(hoping that would fix it). All updates are current, I have tried
reinstalling Movie Maker as noted in one of the forum posts here, made sure
she is not using incompatible file types as also noted, repeatedly ran virus
scans, spyware scans, defragged, etc., made sure there is lots of hard drive
space and RAM.

Any additional thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. The thought of
doing an HD wipe and reinstall just for Movie Maker is not a cheery thought.
