I have just opgraded from a gf4 4200 to a 9800pro. Everything runs great
except when i play videos in vmp9. Both divx and normal videos have this
stutter problem. It looks like the stutter you get when it is accessing the
harddrive, but it is not doing that.

I have tried several catalyst drivers: 3.7 3.8 and 3.9

I am running directx 9b and have reinstalled it.

The videocard is not sharing an irq.

Has anyone had the same problem?

There's a lot of things it could be, Mikael, but check these out: do you
have up-to-date drivers installed for your mobo/chipset? Do you have DMA
enabled for your DVD drive and are you using 80 wire IDE leads (I'm assuming
you're using an IDE drive. You haven't actually given us much information)?
Do you have the DVD drive installed as secondary master and are you
selecting master/slave relationships by using the colour coded connectors
and the cable select facility?

These are only suggestions. You really need to tell us a lot more about
your system and what software you're using. Only one or two of us are
psychic and they're orbiting around Uranus and haven't posted for aeons. ;-)

as well as patricks suggestions, defrag

Also look for programs in your startup (system tray too) that may be
polling. I had a similar experience with a 9700pro that almost drove
me nuts...it was an adware scanner that polled about every 20
seconds...disabled it and all was smooth as silk.

In fact, it might well be worth closing down all running processes and
trying it. If that produces an improvement, try reintroducing the processes
one by one and see if you can find out which ones are causing problems.

Well I had the same problem you speak of. I was not sure if it was my audio
card
or my video card. This always happened playing videos and even in some games
like Vice City. I installed all the newest drivers and still nothing. I
install "ALOT" of
programs so I figured what the heck I'll try a fresh install and see if that
clears it up.
I backed up my whole system to my DLT tape and then reinstalled XP with all the
newest drivers for audio and video. My system rocks now :)
My frame rates have gone up and that damn stutter is gone. I highly reccomend
this if
you can do it. :)
