Video sticking

I have searched this forum but can't find a similar issue.

I saved my video from my Sony SRI to the hard drive of my PC as mpeg 2 files
and subsequently created a movie. Everything is fien at this stage and the
preview looks good. Then when I render the file as a DV AVI file for playback
on my PC the final movie sticks every so often ruining the show. The audi
seems fine but every few seconds the video sticks makes the movie suck.

Can anyone help?

I plan to check the following things:

Codecs - I will experiment switching some off and on to see if that makes a
difference
File format - I will try saving the file as a different format rather than
mpeg to avi
 
OK no issues when I save the file as a Broadband 512kbps file instead of
DV-AVI. I guess the transfer of one file format to another is related to the
problem but can someone explain why?
 
If your using WMM 2.1 then I am still trying to understand how you got an
MPEG2 file to work in the first place since MPEG2 is not compatible with
Movie Maker.
MPEG1 files cause strange effects as they occasionally work but more often
than not cause different problems at different stages of the project, such
as the one your describing, so are you sure they are not MPEG1 files?
Either way try converting them to WMV and the problem will likely go away.
 
I have checked the file again and consulted the manual. The booklet
definately says is mpeg 2 but inspecting the file just says its a windows
media file and I can't see the extension. Hang fire and I will turn
extensions on

Either way then convert it to WMV and the problem will likely go away.
Maybe you got lucky somehow and the MPEG2 file worked at least partially.
 
OK so just so I'm clear working with mpeg 2 files and WMM when you save the
movie as a DVI it will likely stick. As you said it doesn't do it when saved
as a .wmv just as a DVI file.
 
No. It will not likely save either way since the MPEG file will probably
lock up or cause some other undesirable effect. You need to convert it to
WMV before importing it into Movie Maker.
Now sometimes MPEG Type 1 files will work and, in fact, I regularly use WMM
to convert MPEG1 files to WMV by importing, dragging to the timeline, and
saving to my computer without making any changes to the video.

OK I get WMM doesn't really like anything other than WMV. Well done Microsoft
with your forward thinking, open artchitecture thinking!

Interesting Sony's Vegas doesn't have this problem but at $550 I live with
it :-)

Your welcome.
I agree that the incompatibility is frustrating but, as you said, we live
with it. For the most part people are working with video captured from the
video cameras so it is usually a non-issue and when using foreign clips it
just becomes habit to convert them.
