I'm thinking of making my own video projector using a flat LCD laptop
screen. It would be built using the same sort of technology which is in a
overhead projector. Would it be possible to use an old laptop screen and
shine a bright light through the back of it?

Tom's hardware or anandtech.com had a tutorial on how to make an
projector from an old lcd + overhead projector.
