Okay I have been fighting this for about a month now and
everytime I think I have it figured out it still messes
up. I am working with PP 2003 and up until about four
weeks ago had no problems with videos. Now I am having
multiple problems. I've been reading the forum for
similiar problems and have been trying solutions that
others have had success with.
I have checked the file length (tried to run from a local
temp folder)
I have updated Media player and DiVx
I moved files to My videos folder
I have verified MCI settings
I have updated codecs
This is what I get. A wmv file in the my videos folder
will play fine, an mpeg in the same folder generates an
error message, an avi on the local temp folder plays
audio but no picture.
What has happened to PP?
Any and all advice is welcomed, frustration is setting.
Help!!

I am having the same problems. After doing all the
recommended procedures mentioned before, the avi videos
were still not showing in an important presentation. I
formated my computer (as a last resort), reinstalled Win
XP, and Office 2003. The videos showed up in the
PowerPoint presentation as they did when I first made the
presentation (Halleluyah!). They had some lines
appearing, but I thought that I might be able to clear
them up. But...
When I updated Office 2003, DirectX was also updated. The
videos are not showing up again.
I realize that I can not uninstall DirectX 9. Is there a
conflict with PowerPoint 2003? Neither product support at
MS show a problem.
I have read the Meyers info and installed various codecs.
At this point I'm ready to bag PowerPoint and move on.
Any suggestions before I go?

I am having the same issue. PP worked great with wmv files, now movies will
not download to PP but will play on desktop through the media player

It's best to start a new thread because unless your problem is exactly the same
(AVI sound only, MPG generates an error, etc.) the solution might be different.
Let us know what happens when you try to play a previously created presentation
with a WMV file. And what happens when you create a new one slide presentation
and insert the WMV file? If you get any error messages, please provide the full
text of the message. Also confirm the version of PowerPoint you are using,
including the applied service packs.
