Hello all.

I've got a .ppt file I created in PowerPoint 2000. In this file I've
inserted several videos ( Insert > Movies & Sounds > Movie From File ) that
are all stored in the same directory as the .ppt file.

My problem is that when I copy the folder the .ppt file is in, videos and
all, to another computer the videos don't play automatically. To play the
videos you have to click them and point to the file I inserted. The really
agrivating part is that the diretory you are put in initially to find the
video, is the one the video is in.

I hope this makes sense. I need to figure out some way of inserting these
videos then be able to copy the folder it's stored in (videos included) to
another machine and play them.

The machines I'm moving these .ppt files to only has the PowerPoint viewer
installed.

I apprecaite any insight anyone may have.

OK, you've done the right thing in putting the files in the folder with the
PPT and THEN inserting them (but just to verify, that's correct, isn't it?
No fair inserting then moving the files to where they belong.)

That creates links to just the file, no path.

When PPT sees these, it appears that it looks for them in the same folder as
the PPT itself, but that's not really the case. It looks for them on the
current path.

Usually it works because usually when you open a file in PPT (doubleclick it
or start PPT and choose File Open) PPT sets the current path to match the
PPT file's path. If the movie files are there, you're good to go.

In some cases it doesn't set the path (eg Start PPT, choose File, then pick
one of the files from the most recently used list at the bottom of the files
menu).

Seems that Viewer is similar. As a test, try the different ways of opening
the file in viewer ... start it first, do File Open and so forth.
