While playing a game the action will stop for maybe 2 seconds, run for 1, 2
seconds then repeat for a total of about 10 seconds. The graphics are crisp
and clear during this time. I have updated the video card drivers and
installed the latest patch for the game, Half-Life, and have all WinXP Pro
updates, any help will be appreciated. My system:

Giga-byte MB (GA-8IHXP), 2.53 GB Intel chip, 512 MBytes RAM (Rambus), BFG
Tech 5700 Ultra Video card.

Fire up the Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) and see if you've got any other
applications eating up a lot of your system.

Also might want to try disabling virus protection.

Probably worth checking for newer chipsets drivers too (should be on the
Giga-byte site).

Have you got any other games on the system, do they show similar things?
