I have the same problem, Nvidia isn´t a easy video board to deal with, I
think, for example with the driver that comes with the motherboard a Gforce4
Integrated GPU, a benchmark Freshdiagnose, gives 833 maximun with out
overcloking, with the new driver from the site it gives 933, with the
system driver of the site it gives 733, with out overcloking.
Ir´s not common a onboard driver have this performance, the same benchmark
was made on another PC and gives 433 in one of the measures, but the others
stay almost at 50% lower...., and the Video board is a Gforce 2 MX Tornado
(4X) 64 MB...(offboard), Motherboard ASUS P4S533.
Similar things happens on my computer, and the solution for the problem I
maybe get was put anothers coolers to decrese the temperature of chase and
redirect some of the wind generated of the coolers inside.
For example a XP1666, there are seven coolers, two chasse, CPU, motherboard
principal chipset, slot, and a aditional fixed on the screw of the chase
that fix a agp card, and I dont´t have a agp card offboard..., and the
cooler of power supply energy..
I redirected some of the wind of one the coolers with a plastic and a
adesive ribbon, (sorry my english isn´t good), that was not the best
solution to the arrange of coolers, the temperatures stay at

Sometimes it become instable like go between 32 to 35 ° C when used for a
long period of time, using 100% of processor...
with maximun temperature of 42°C with 100% of processor working in games
like Unreal (opengl), Freelancer (directx), total anikilation(directx or
not)..., castrol honda (directx), for at least four hours, with out stop...

The other case was a P4 1400, with Gorce2 Mx off board, slot cooler, two
chase coolers, cpu cooler, power source cooler, tree pci cards, (two lan,
one modem),
I did many configurations, with many coolers...
temperatures stay at

Another thing that happens many times was that the driver of Nvidia is
configurable, and you can do many change, what happens is that a
configuration doesn´t work at the time other time it works...!!!!!
Try to have the last drivers (WHQL)...
