Not sure this is the right newsgroup to post this to, but
here goes. I recently installed XP Home on two different
computers (yes, I bought TWO copyies of the OS); Gateway
with NVidia Ravia TNT 64 AGP video, and on an EMachines
with ATI Rage Pro PCI video card. The install was
flawless until the final reboot on both machines. Now,
when either of them is booted, I get the intial XP Home
Edition screen, but then when the main XP screen should
come up, I lose all video. It acts like the refresh rate
or drivers are not right, but I have installed the latest
video drivers, and I know this monitor works with XP as I
have used it for this purpose before with no problems. In
Windows 98, I used to have to go in and change the
refresh rate on the adapter to "Adapter Default" whenever
this occurs. But now I can only get into XP using Safe
Mode, and I don't see anywhere I can change the refresh
rate. Can somebody please help me!!

Thanks!!!!

Once in Safe Mode you should be able to bring up the
Display Properties (right click on Desktop, choose
Properties). Select the Settings tab and choose the
Advanced button. There is a tab on this dialog box for
adjusting the refresh rate of you monitor. I have a nVidia
GeForce FX 5200 installed on my machine and it placed a tab
in this same dialog box with options for adjusting the
refresh rate on the card also. Hope this helps.
