I conduct classes using powerpoint (XP Office).
Periodically I include video segments. Presently I have
to change back and forth between the presentation and
dealing w/the video player. I would prefere to include
the video bite in the presentation and engage/show it
with the slides. What (and how) do I need to transfer
the video excerpt to the computer and then attach it to
the PP presentation?

It's a real pain toggling between real video and powerpoint.

What you need to do is some how get the video tapes converted to a video
file and then "insert" them into powerpoint.

A few choices

1)
Send the tapes to a bureau with exact instructions.....
Start 12:32 seconds end 14:55 seconds. etc

Please convert to XYZ format (I'd go for MPEG1 as it works 99% of the time)

2) Do it yourself.

Buy the kit to do it yourself....Have a search on the internet....pinnacle
dazzle miromotion. The products normally consist of software and hardware to
connect your video player to your computer and grab the clips when you play
them. With basic video editing facilities to trim and fade the clips etc.

Look for ones that can save as both MPEG1 and AVI

Then when it's all done you can just show the powerpoint...no switching!

There are various ways you can incorporate 'live' video into PPT using a
video capture card such as an All-In-Wonder. We have a commercial solution
that produces a 'clean' window if you don't want to do the programming
yourself. But it currently needs PPT 97 or 2000 on Windows 95 or 98.
