The video files from Google have a file extension of *.gvi. They are
really nothing more than a standard avi file but,,, Google puts a goofy
file header containing the wrong FourCC codec information in them
specifically so they won't work properly with a Windows Media player.
(Guess they want you to use their player.)
There are a number of freeware apps on the net to change the codec
information and search should turn up lots of them for you.
