Any file, any playback program. Video won't play, but audio will. After
loading the file, cpu % jumps to 99% for wmplayer.exe. Have to wait 10
minutes for the task manager to even load before I can close it. Once
closed, everything returns to normal.

The wierdest part is that video playback was fine until one day when I came
home from work. Then it started doing this.

System Specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 2.2GHz
1 GB PC3200 ram
120GB hard drive
GeForce 6200A 256MB ram, w/ 93.71 drivers

Tried in:
Winamp v.524
Windows Media Player 11
Quicktime
Real Player

Thank you for your time.

I have exactly the same problem. Eberything work OK unless and until I
install SP2 or too many of the updates after SP1. Havne't work out exactly
which one messes everything up, but it is one of the 18 applied after SP1 is
put on. I have wiped the disk and done several installs trying to work out
exactly which update creates this problem. Once you''ve got it, it won't go
away unless / until you owrk out which update caused it.
