video is clashing with something

im pretty sure that my video driver is clashing with something, every now n then my video driver will shut down n my screen into real bad color and resolution mode, and when i try play games the comp reboots and/or the video packs in causing me to re-install.

ive done virus scans adware scans e.t.c comp is totally cleared of all that, i cant remember how/where to look for clashes e.t.c, can anybody tell me, thanks
 
what graphics card do you have? have you updated the drivers recently?
 
i cant find an updated driver for it anywhere

but my card is

Diamond Stealth III(S540) with the S3 Savage 4 3d acceloratore

its 32MB which is more than enough for any of the games i have.
 
If you are using Windows XP SP2 make sure to look and see if your card will work with it if it is an older card. I had some issues with my older card where it did the same things once I went to SP2.
 
right click my computer > properties > hardware tab > device manager > display adapter > expand the list and double click the device name > driver tab > uninstall
 
ok well i downloaded it, but everytime i un-install my driver it keeps installing instantly, i think thats cos the driver was on the xp cd.
 
what driver is it installing ? you could try using update driver and point it to the driver you've downloaded
 
i dont know, ill un-install and it makes me reboot in order for the changes to take effect as soo as i reboot, it says new hardware found i ignore it n press cancel, then it says hardware installed successfully
 
im trying the update driver thing, and ive pointed it to the folder i put them in and its just searching none stop
 
now everythings messed up, when im scrolling down with the scroll bar or scroller on my mouse it doesnt scroll smoothly it like jumps n stuff
