Video insertion in PowerPoint

I have read most/all of the threads here about this topic. I am having the
same problem. I am using PowerPoint 03. I have inserted video in the past, no
problems. I just updated Direct X (per instructions read here). I am using
Studio Plus 10 created video segments (that's new, I was using 9). I have
tried MPEG2 segs and VCD segs, as well as wmf files. All will play in Windows
Media player directly. The wmf file plays in my presentation but is lousy
quality compared to the VCD or DVD quality MPEG. SOMETIMES the higher
quality ones will play, but usually they don't. No predictability or rhyme or
reason... I get the black box, and when I click to start the video, I get
one brief flicker and then the hand... and nothing. I have put the files in
short paths... no change. I haven't tried burning a CD. I am using Media
Player 9...last I tried 10 it was a nightmare and I haven't upgraded again.
What am I missing here? Is there an issue/limitation on file size?
 
I'm having similar problems with a user that is trying to do the same thing.
Did you ever find a solution to this? I tried the download that was suggest
but it still doesn't work. When it comes to the video it displays a green
solid screen and then stops.

A green screen in the video is a good indication that you do not have the
proper codec installed on the PC. I suggest using GSpot (do an internet
search) to figure out exactly what codec is required.

I download the GSpot file and ran it but not sure what I'm looking for as
far as what codecs I need to be running. I did a compare with that machine
and another machine in the control panel. Found one differents and downloaded
that fix but it still doesn't work. The first slide had text on it and the
text on one line flashes but then when I advance the .ppt the next screen
with the video displays solid green. Any suggestions?
 
Have you tried using PFCPro to process the video file into PowerPoint. If
not I'd say give it a try as it has a fully functioning two trial that
should get you through this.

Yes I did the PFCPro and it still didn't work. I fixed it by installing the
Powerpoint Viewer. What I was asking is what does GSpot do? I ran it and
really didn't understand what the point was.
 
GSpot should have reported exactly what codec (fourCC) was being used in the
file, it's resolution, real file size, and how your PC was decoding it and
which "splitter" was parsing sound from video.

If possible, can you email me a sample of the video file? I would like to
see what is in it and why it's causing such an issue.
