I recently found 8mm family film and had it transferred to DVD by a video
transfer service. The file I received is video.ts. I would like to prepare
clips from the video and make a movie in WMM. Is this possible to do? If
so, where can I find information or tutorials on how to prepare the video and
then import it into WMM. As you can see by my question, I am a beginner and
may not even be asking the proper questions. I would really like to learn...

I'm also just starting a family home movie project and used a video
transfer service to get a DVD from 8mm film.

Starting with that DVD, I used Cinematize (miraizon.com) to extract AVI
files to read into WMM. The Cinematize manual has a section on "For editing
with Windows Movie Maker."

Be sure to have the latest version of QuickTime installed. (I didn't, and
had some false starts getting reduced video quality.)

No end result to report yet, but I have burned a test DVD using Sonic MyDVD
LE from the output of WMM and so-far-so-good.
