Video hangs after a trim a clip

I really have a two part question.
First, even though I click the import as clips box, it doesn't import the
video as cips.
Second, when I trim video the first 2 seconds of the trimmed video hang.
I've been using WMM for a few months now and I haven't had any problems until
today.
 
What is different about this video clip than others you have used in the
past? anything?
something you downloaded, video format, anything that can help us help
you....?

how long is the video before you trim it?

install anything since you last used MM?
 
There's nothing different about any of the clip I'm trying to work with. It
is an 11 min clip and I've trimmed it before with no problem. I need to get
a different segment out of it. I haven't downloaded anything new that would
affect video formats.
