Video Freeze

On some startups of Windows XP Home, I occasionally get
system glithes. By that I mean that sometimes when moving
the mouse it will freeze, momentarily. The same "freeze"
can be noticed in video, typing, scrolling, and just
about any other type of video activity. If I monitor all
processes in either Windows Task Manager, or Sysinternals
Process Explorer, while makinig a circle with the mouse,
immediately after the "glitch", the System proces(process
ID 4)registers anything from 12% to 23% activity. If I
shut down and restart, it will usually go away. but here
lately, it's been taking more than one restart to get rid
of the problem. Does anyone know what could be causing
this? Your help is greatly appreciated. If you could
reply to my e-mail ([email protected])it would be
even more appreciated, however, I will be checking back
to see if there are any replies to this message.

Ron:

The custom in newsgroups is to reply to the group so that all may benefit.
Furthermore, you wouldn't want to include your email address in a public
newsgroup, as this is an invitation for spam.

Presuming that all your hardware and software is 100% compatible with XP, if
your screen or mouse temporarily freezes for a few seconds, that means that
your computer is working on something that takes up enough of your CPU time
that the computer cannot immediately respond to other tasks.

Sometimes this happens because your hardware is just not up to handling all
the work you are giving it, e.g., it's older or otherwise not powerful
enough. Another common cause is that one or more of your programs are doing
something 'in the background'. Check to see what other programs you have
running and what they might be up to.

A third reason this may happen is that you have unwittingly invited spyware
into your system, which is working on something in the background (usually
communicating with the Internet). To detect this you will need to install
one of the many spyware detection (and removal) programs that can be found
on the Internet. To well-reviewed examples are AdAware and 'Spybot Search
and Destroy'.

Thanks Tom, But I've done all that, or didn't you notice
the bit about sysinternals' ProcessExplorer. The question
I had was about the System Process. But Thanks anyway.
And I know about the newsgroup posting etiquitte, and
spam, just desperate here(besides most newsgroup crawler
bots just look in the header information for e-mail
addresses, not the body of the message). Also, I have
SBS&D installed and constantly update and run it, haven't
had a spam, worm, virus, or spyware problem in the last
five years or more because of my carefullness. I can
always just continue to restart until the problem goes
away. Was hoping someone had some insight into the System
Process (processexplorer isn't able to pull modules for
that particular process).
