Need help. I have Xp 2002 Home edition Service pack 2 with 2.40 GZ and 512
RAM. I have a 40 min. video with transitions and sound. Whe previewing the
video skips, freezes while sound continues. At other times the sound skips and
at times it all freezes up. I have done 30 minute videos before witha few
short audio skips before. I have tried to do a system restore. Changed the
Drive to NTFS, changed processor scheduling from programs to back grouns and
memory usage from programs to system cache as suggested by someone that wrote
in to Papajohn. Iam about the trash the PC and the windows moviemaker and go
to the darkside and get an Imac. What say you wise people. Can someone out
there help me.

I get the same problem and have been advised to use anything other than WMM
as many have reported this .

Just a few ideas.....

Sounds like resource issues...and it's also
possible that the project is too complex with
many transitions and effects.

Also you may have some incompatibility
issues with your source files. Have a look
at the following article:

File type compatibility with Movie Maker

Installing more RAM would certainly be an
improvement. It could also be worth a try to
increase the size of your Virtual Memory
Paging File. The following article explains how:

(308417) HOW TO: Set Performance Options
in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308417

Might be worth a try to disconnect from the
net and close all programs...especially virus
scanners before opening Movie Maker.

Sometimes it can improve performance to
run Disk Cleanup, Error Checking and Defrag.

It also may be a good idea to create several
smaller projects and save them as movies.
Then re-import them and join them together.
