I tried viewing some movies that my friend lent me but no
player would allow me to view it. It is a avi file and I
tried opening it with media player, quick time, real
player, divx and everytime i try opening it, microsft's
message of send report or cancel would come up.

I don't understand why it is crashing. Could it have been
some system file I deleted? Where can I get the files to
allow the players to play the movies?

Thanks,
Carol

Slow down. That's a pirated MP3 Encoder/Decoder that will break WMP.
Please don't suggest people try and download that. FhG is not big on people
pirating their software. :\

Pirated? From whom? They are free from FREE-CODECS.COM. You obviously do not read and understand plain English. If they were pirated, someone would have
taken action by now for they have solicited them since 2001.

Byte, I know you want to help, but that is a pirated codec along with most
of them that are listed on "Free" codec websites.

If you don't want to take it from me, take it from Zach Robinson (aka
zachd) - http://www.zachd.com/pss/pss.html
==
If crossfading (a Windows XP feature) does not work for MP3 files, you
likely have a *pirated MP3 encoder* installed to your system. This codec
will NOT crossfade. You can rename the file "l3codeca.acm" **(and/or
l3codecp.acm)** on your system (to "l3codeca.bak" or such) and then
reinstall the player and things should work fine at that point.
==

Now, you will notice that once you download this "free" codec, the installer
looks kind of shady, right? I can bet you that FhG is not into putting WAV
sounds embedded into their installers. Notice this one has sound to it,
that's a clear mark that FhG (FhG is Fraunhofer, the owner of codec and the
father of MP3.)

In that package is "l3codecp.acm". As noted by me, zach, and others that is
pirated. It will also break your crossfader in WMP. And as you have
suggested in the past, you fix it by getting rid of this codec which you are
telling everyone to download. :\ Not good. And if you would like to check
look in C:\Windows\System32 and you will see L3CODECP.ACM in caps, ready to
break WMP.

l3codecp.acm is also known as the "Radium Hack". Clear hints of this is the
logo on the setup. You will also notice that once installed the FAQ says
"Fhg Radium MP3 codec FAQ" and their is a nice little NFO file documenting
the hack and "igNorAMUS" for his working hacking it.

You can also note that at http://mp3decoders.mp3-tech.org/decoders_acm.html
you can find out that is it pirated
===
l3codecp.acm = Radium hack. After 1996 (above) FhG didn't release an ACM
codec with full encoding facilities. This hack probably has the same
decoding problems as the other two 1997 dated codecs.
===

If you would like to read more about pirated codec please goto

Heh, who is this smart guy?!

DivX 5.2.x doesn't contain Spyware anymore. :) They do include an option to
install the Google Toolbar, however. They got smart.

Suggestion: Don't talk if you don't know what are you talking about...
and check your references, download.com page was removed.

Works fine here. ;-) Kind of convenient it doesn't work for, right? The
Doom9 pages shows everything needed. You could always drop in and ask the
folks at DivXNetworks about it to, they tend to hang out in the DivX
Encoding forum. :) Here's another quick thread:

Oh, you might think about taking your own suggestions and applying them.
And, quote the posts as you reply to them.
