Hey all,

I am using powerpoint 2007, and sometimes when I "insert" a "movie", it
all works great. Other times, it doesn't, and all I get is the first
frame showing up on the slide, then nothing but white when the video
starts playing.

At first I thought it was a codec thing, but I have some movies that are
in mpeg-1 format that work, others in the exact same format that don't.

So any idea what might be wrong?

Thanks.

Dave

Hi Dave,

sometimes it's only an issue of path lenght. For multimedia files, if white
or black rectangles are shown instead of the media. PowerPoint has problems
with pathes which are more than 128 characters long (path + file name). Try
moving presentation AND video to a folder with a shorter path, e.g. C:\Test.

Best regards,
Ute

And if that doesn't work?

At least four of twelve people at our school are having the same
problem, all on different computers... but all running PP2007
with .wmv files. Can't make the pathname much shorter than "c:
\vid.wmv"

thanks,

Dave,

What is the source of the videos? I ask as wmv content often contains DRM
controls and can not be used in PowerPoint as it is a delivery medium.
