i bought a game that required vista. prior to realizing that i needed vista,
i loaded the game. when i tried to play, although the game didn't want to
function completely the video was working. i went out and bought the vista
upgrade, installed it and the game.

now i get an error that says "cannot initialize 3d engine"

any help would be appreciated. i like vista (so far) but i only upgraded so
i can play the game...

My initial thoughts regarding this issue would be to remove the game
in question, updating your video card drivers to the latest version
from your manufacturer's website(usually ATI or Nvidia) just in case
your video card is using a Win XP driver in compatibility mode and
after reinstalling the game. This probably should help resolve your
issue. Though in all honesty, some Vista-required games like ShadowRun
have some pretty weird issues like not running when a second monitor
is connected so I can't be sure what your issue may be.
