Being a 13-year-old Jak & Daxter fan, I wanted to make a fanvid for a foum
that I've joined recently, However, after restoring my system due to a virus
that I could not seem to remove using my anti-virus software, I opened Movie
Maker to make a video, and I found that there are no options to edit the
Video Effects or transitions. All I can do is make clips fade into
one-another, and split them- that's pretty much it.

Is it because I have not yet installed Wndows XP Service Pack 2, or is it
something else?

If you have the original release of Windows XP, or Windows XP Service Pack
1, then you have Windows Movie Maker 1 or Movie Maker 1.1. Movie Maker 1.x
offers very basic video editing tools, but no special effects or advanced
editing tools that you can find in Windows Movie Maker 2.1 (included with
Windows XP Service Pack 2). To download this new version of Movie Maker, you
will need to upgrade to Service Pack 2. Service Pack 2 is vailable through
Windows Update (note that you may need to install several critical updates
before downloading and installing Service Pack 2. Once you install Service
Pack 2, you can use the new version of Windows Movie Maker. I hope that
these suggestions will help you solve your problem.

Best regards,

Thanks a lot for that. I've installed the Service Pack so now hopefully it'll
be installed and will work.
